Hisone is prescribed for various conditions, including joint issues, serious allergic reactions, specific skin or eye disorders, certain blood, hormonal, or immune system problems, ulcerative colitis, inflammation, and progression of multiple sclerosis. Hisone functions as a glucocorticoid hormone, which lowers your body's natural defense responses and alleviates symptoms like redness and swelling.
Administer Hisone orally with food or milk, typically 3 or 4 times daily or as your doctor directs. The dosage and duration of therapy depend on your medical condition and how you respond to treatment. For optimal benefits, take Hisone consistently. To help you remember, try to take it at the same times each day. It’s crucial to keep using Hisone even if you feel better. Adhere closely to the dosing schedule and take Hisone as prescribed. Cholestyramine and colestipol may reduce the absorption of this medication; if you are using either, ensure you separate them from this medication by at least 4 hours. If taking Hisone once daily, do so in the morning before 9.
If you are on an every-other-day regimen or another non-daily schedule, marking your calendar might be helpful as a reminder. If you have been on Hisone for an extended period, do not discontinue it abruptly without consulting your doctor, as this may exacerbate your condition. A gradual reduction in dosage may be necessary to mitigate withdrawal symptoms like fatigue, weakness, weight loss, or nausea.
Hisone may increase appetite, cause indigestion, or provoke anxiety. Other, less common side effects might include excessive hair growth on the face, muscle and bone pain, and vision issues. Inform your doctor if you notice sudden weight gain, swelling in your legs or arms, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, severe vomiting, black or tarry stools, extreme fatigue, muscle weakness, or unusual mood changes. These side effects are generally not concerning if Hisone is taken for a short duration.
